[Tetyana’s story]

Zaporizhzhia is an industrial city with a large number of metallurgical factories that many women work in. I can do my work with my eyes closed. 

When the war began, it felt as if a ship that was going full steam ahead had hit an iceberg. My husband and 17-year-old son stayed in Zaporizhzhia. But at that moment I understood that I had to take my daughter and grandson out immediately, to avoid exposing them to difficulties from which it would not be easy to escape from later. We already knew what was happening in Kharkiv and Mariupol. 

There were queues at the railway station that I had never seen before in my life. But there was a separate queue for parents with small kids. When my daughter and grandson were already inside the carriage, I was told that there was no room for me. But I had a suitcase with clothing and money! My hands and feet instantly went numb. My daughter was crying in the carriage while I was on the platform. In the end, a policeman allowed me to enter the carriage but warned me that I would have to sit wherever there was space. And despite the fact that the car was a real beehive, full of people, everyone showed their best human qualities. I did not hear a single insulting word or complaint. When we reached our destination, volunteers immediately came to help. We were given food, the child was given milk and diapers. I will never forget that support. 

I really want peace to come to Ukraine so we can return home, because there is nothing better than our own home.

[Розповідь Тетяни]

Запоріжжя — індустріальне місто з великою кількістю металургійних підприємств, на яких працює багато жінок. Я, до прикладу, можу виконувати свою роботу із заплющеними очима. 

Коли розпочалася війна, було таке враження, що корабель, який ішов повним ходом, зіткнувся з айсбергом. У Запоріжжі залишилися мій чоловік та син 17 років. Але в той момент я розуміла, що мусила негайно вивозити доню і внука, щоб не наражати їх на складнощі, з яких потім буде непросто вибратися. Ми вже знали, що коїться у Харкові та Маріуполі. 

На залізничному вокзалі були такі черги, яких я за своє життя ніколи не бачила. Але для батьків з маленькими дітьми була створена окрема черга. Коли доня з внуком вже були всередині вагонa, мені сказали, що для мене немає місця. А у мене ж валіза з речами, гроші! Руки і ноги вмить заніміли. Доня плаче у вагоні, я — на пероні. Врешті поліцейський дозволив мені зайти у вагон, але попередив, що сидітиму, де доведеться. І попри те, що вагон був справжнім вуликом, набитим людьми, всі показували свої найкращі людські якості. Я не чула жодного образливого слова чи нарікань. Коли доїхали до місця призначення, відразу ж на допомогу прийшли волонтери. Нас нагодували, дитині дали молоко, памперси. Цю підтримку я ніколи не забуду. 

Дуже хочу, щоб в Україні настав мир і ми змогли повернутися додому, адже немає нічого кращого за власну домівку.
